Reasons To Believe Ministries promotes a bridge between science and faith.
Some people will read this, and feel that I am attacking a literal interpretation
of the Bible by suggesting that the earth is more than 6,000 to 10,000 years old, and that it was created out of “The
Big Bang”. To them I would gently point out that amongst the scientific community there are many dedicated Christians
who believe that Jesus was the Son of God, that He physically arose from the dead, and that He is the Christ Savior (They
believe what’s most important). What’s more, they are dedicated followers of Christ. However, they
also believe the universe to be about 14 billion years old, that some type of evolutionary looking process was used by God,
and that these beliefs are reconcilable with sound Bible interpretation. In my mind, I had a choice; I could either
believe that (A) these Christians lacked intelligence, (B) these Christians were all part of an evil conspiracy, or (C) these
Christian were uncovering reconciliation between belief in God and the responsible exercising of our God-given ability to
seek and recognize facts. As with the religious scholars of Jesus’ day, I believe we must be careful not to be
blinded by the letter of Scripture, but rather moved by the heart of it.
